Generator Shed

Constructed in 1996, the generator shed is the heart of the Lamar Buffalo Ranch sustainable energy initiative. The shed holds the battery bank for the solar system that was installed in that same year to reduce the usage of the propane generator also located in the shed. In 2014 Toyota donated 208 used batteries which were used until 2019 when it was replaced by the current battery bank.

The shed does consume some energy. For proper function, the batteries need to be kept warm, no colder than 55 degrees, so some electricity is used for heating. The shed also houses carious computer systems which record and transmit energy data that is used for research and is seen on this website.
