Bunkhouse
Constructed in 1927, the Lamar Buffalo Ranch Bunkhouse was built to house ranch hands. It contributes to the Lamar Buffalo Ranch historic district. A vault under the building still exists today where the first pelton wheel was housed to generate power with water from Rose Creek. The interior was altered in the 1960’s removing much of its historic fabric and today is used as a kitchen and classroom space for education programs held at the ranch.
The Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office included the Bunkhouse in its 2009 energy-savings plan. The upgrades, taking place in 2011, consisted of replacing the modern windows with double-hung windows replicating a 1957 photograph, replacing the doors, and upgrading wall and ceiling insulation. The building also now only uses energy efficient refrigerators and freezers, green cleaning products, and motion sensor lighting.
