Tom has completed twenty-five years of teaching at the School of Architecture and he has threatened to continue until he gets it right. He is currently teaching the undergraduate environmental controls sequence and a graduate course in high performance buildings. He is also the Director of the Integrated Design Lab that employs several students in assisting building designers with achieving significant energy savings. This year, Tom is completing his third term as a Regional Director on the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Along the way, he has served as Director of the School of Architecture, Acting Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Architecture, President of the Montana Board of Architects and Landscape Architects and what seems like hundreds of NCARB committees. Tom was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and because it was so convenient, he earned his Bachelor of Architect degree from the University of Michigan. After working a few years in Denver he received a Masters of Architecture degree from the University of Colorado - Boulder with an emphasis on energy efficient design strategies.
