Sherrill was raised in Great Falls, Montana and graduated with a BS from Montana State University. She graduated with an MA in interior design from San Francisco State University in 1987 and earned a Doctors of Philosophy in Higher Education at Northern California Graduate University in 2005. Her dissertation concentrated on Environmental Design. Sherrill has practiced interior design for 25 years.

Sherrill joined the faculty of the School of Architecture as an Assistant Adjunct Professor in 2003. She has taught Directed Research/Creative Activity, Interior Architecture classes during Fall Semesters and has returned to San Francisco State University for Spring Semesters. Sherrill has taught interior design at San Francisco State University for 12 years and at UC Berkeley Extension.

Sherrill is a Profession member and past Director at Large of the American Society of Interior Designers, California North Chapter and is a Certified Interior Designer in the state of California. She earned the Chapter Presidential Citation for Distinguished Service to the Society and Profession in 2000. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa. She is a member of Interior Design Educators Council, has served on various IDEC committees, and chaired the Pacific West Regional IDEC conference in Bozeman in 2008. She has served as faculty for international student design competitions at the School of Architecture, MSU, and her students have earned an IDEC Honorable Mention Award in 2006 and an IDEC Pacific West Region Award in 2007. Sherrill has presented papers in Hawaii and presented Natural Aesthetic Interior Preferences and Well-Being at the Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities in 2010. She has been a guest lecturer and reviewer for the School of Architecture, MSU since 2003.

Her 25 years of interior design experience with Sherrill Baldwin Halbe Interior Design includes projects in the Napa Valley, San Francisco, Marin County, and Irish Beach in California and in Montana. She has published several articles on interior design in various periodicals.

As an oil painter, Sherrill has had painting exhibits in California and Montana, earning Best of Show Awards in San Rafael. She has also been featured in several publications and cookbooks in the 1990s as a restaurateur with Girdle Mountain Summer House in Belt, Montana.
