Expected Graduate School placement for Students with an Undergraduate Degree in non-Architecture Fields
Students who have an undergraduate degree in another field and desire to study architecture at Montana State will, in most cases, be expected to complete the full 10 semesters of design studio. Depending on the quality of the submitted portfolio, which may demonstrate equivalent achievement, advanced placement can be made. Students should apply with MSU Admissions as a "Second-Degree Student" to complete the prerequisite undergraduate courses before being allowed to take Graduate program courses. MSU School of Architecture does offer an Intensive first year summer program that is open to second degree and transfer students. This program takes the first year of the program coursework and compresses it into a 12-week summer program. This allows second degree and transfer students to maximize their time to complete all coursework. The intensive summer program is set up for students who have completed the Pre-Calculus and Physics requirements. On average there are 12-15 students who participate in the summer program. Additionally second degree students will not be required to take MSU general education requirements as these are satisfied by the previous degree.
