Peter Kommers FAAR is a professor emeritus and registered architect. He has taught a wide array of architectural studies with an emphasis in architectural design and graphics. He was formerly a principal in an award-winning practice and has taught in many capacities since the late 1970’s. He holds a BArch degree from Montana State University and a second professional MArch from the University of Oregon.
As founder of the Rome Studio and winner of the Rome Prize in Architecture, he currently teaches solely in SoA’s summer studio in Italy. The Rome Studio offers Peter and his students the opportunity to pursue design, history, and travel drawing as a holistic synthesis of people and place in one of the richest architectural settings in the world.
A Graham Foundation Fellowship for advanced studies in the arts, a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Design Grant, a Governor’s Citation for Excellence in Design, and five MSU Teaching Excellence awards are also among his recognitions.
